Council of BC Yacht Clubs

Through our membership in the Council of BC Yacht Clubs we contribute to activities that enhance boating in British Columbia. The Council represents the provincial interest of members from more than 50 yacht clubs.  It provides key input into the affairs influencing all British Columbia boaters, including Canadian Coast Guard activities, debris control, water use applications, and parks research.  When required, the Council lobbies regulators for changes that benefit the boating public.

CVYC helped the Council monitor US vessels in Canadian waters during the border closure of 2020 and, and as the most northerly active club, we are regularly asked for comments on issues that affect us here and north of Comox waters.

BC Marine Parks Forever Society

BC Marine Parks Forever Society (BC MPFS) is a completely volunteer-driven organization raising funds for marine parks land acquisition and enhancements that are user-and-ecologically friendly.   It is also the organizing body that places stern tie rings throughout the Salish Sea and Desolation Sound.

The funding for this not-for-profit society comes from the members of the Council of BC Yacht Clubs, financial support in partnership with other associations, special bequests and private donations.   CVYC presently has two of its members participating as members of the Advisory Committee for BC MPFS.

Charitable and environmental causes

Our Christmas Social Event always includes a chance for members to donate to the Comox Valley Food Bank.  In 2020, despite the lockdown and having to Zoom the event, we raised over $2,000 in donations.

Additionally, in 2019 and 2020 we collected over 500 pieces of warm, gently-used outdoor clothing that was donated to Car-a-Van and two other charities that care for those less fortunate than we are.  Our waterproof marine clothing and all kinds of multi-use winter wear were generously donated and greatly appreciated.

CVYC budgets for an annual donation to both BC Marine Parks Forever Society and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) (2020 - $1,500 each).
